The Town Hall of Pontevedra turns 140 this summer. Since its official inauguration on August 24, 1880, the building designed by the architect Alejandro Rodríguez Sesmero has witnessed the evolution of Pontevedra.
Its walls have witnessed the glory of the dictatorship. And under its roof the four mayors that the city has had since the transition have sat : José Rivas Fontán (1979-1991), Francisco Javier Cobián (1991-1995), Juan Luis Pedrosa (1995-1999) and Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores (since 1999).
The building was the seat of the Council until 2011 , when the transfer of the officials to Michelena, 30 was completed. Currently, the Town Hall houses part of the Archives and the engineering service . It also houses the tourist offices on a provisional basis. The rest of the facility, which is pending a reform project, is closed to the public.
The Town Hall, on whose balcony protest flags are usually hung, such as the LGTBI, which has been in place since 2007, has also been the scene of weddings and the filming of television series.
