At the bottom of the post is the Grapevine Historic Landmark medallion, and above it, a sign that reads:

Carl and Della Irene Simmons House
Has been designated a Historic Landmark by the City of Grapevine
Historic Preservation Commission
2005
Grapevine Historic Preservation Ordinance,
Appendix G, Code of Ordinances

----------

The history sign was added later, and it reads:

This one-story Tudor Revival wood cottage clad with distinctive petrified wood and red sandstone built in 1938 by Carl and Della Irene Simmons is one of only two such houses constructed in Grapevine. The Simmons house has a rectangular footprint and an asymmetrical front façade. The steeply pitched roof is multi-gabled with side gables and a set of front paired gables. A prominent fireplace placed to the right of the front entrance is typical of Tudor-style homes. The entryway is arched with decorative stone work. Both front windows extend from floor to the lower roof line.

Carl Key and Della Irene Simmons were married on November 14, 1923. Carl, born in Grapevine in 1902, was the son of Edward Thomas and Marth Elizabeth Simmons. Carl worked in partnership with his brothers, Hugh and Arthur Glenn, farming, trading in livestock and running a successful dairy. The dairy was dispersed on October 16, 1947, at the start of the Grapevine Dam and Reservoir construction. Della Irene was born in 1900, the daughter of George M. and Dizana Foster Warren and a third generation descendant of Ambrose Foster, one of Grapevine's earliest pioneers. The Simmons lived here until their deaths in 1974 and 1975. The house they built was distinctive and constructed with materials that have withstood the test of time. It was restored in 2016 by Matthew Blaxton as an office for his real estate development ventures.
