Heb je dan last van de zaagkanten, machineslag, dan weet de vlakbank en wel raad mee en kan je het daarna direct schilderen en hoef je het niet eerst vlak te schuren.

Staal is in tegenstelling tot hout een voor een particulier wat moeilijker te bewerken materiaal. Ook heeft het een veel meer omvattende discipline. Te weten: Buis, rond, vierkant, ovaal, plat ovaal; Profielen, H, U, I, hop; Plaat, en in ongelimiteerde dikten en afmetingen. Daarnaast kan het ook nog allerlei bewerkingen ondergaan. Denk daarbij aan; zagen, knippen, walsen, buigen, lassen, draaien.
