Located on Estero Island at Fort Myers Beach is an iconic restaurant next to the Fort Myers Beach Fishing Pier. The ‘Then’ photos were taken in 1969, from the old wooden pier facing north, and the restaurant was known as the Times Square Restaurant. The ‘Now’ photos taken in 2020, from the newer pre-stressed concrete pier, are of the same restaurant, but it is now known as the PierSide Grill and Famous Blowfish Bar. It’s interesting to note that the restaurant has been remodeled several times but the beach erosion control structures have stayed nearly unchanged in the last 50+ years. Even the the sandy alleyway between the pier and outside dining area is still vacant.
