Als Nachfolger von Teichen und Brunnen (Krankheitskeime) wurde einst die Wasserversorgung für Mensch und Tier in Vanikum durch den Pumpenbetrieb sichergestellt.
Mit der Versorgung durch das öffentliche Wassernetz im Jahr 1913 wurden die Pumpen nicht mehr benötigt. Sie erwiesen sich jedoch im 2.Weltkrieg als große Hilfe, als das Rohrnetz stark zerstört war.
Heute schmücken die alten Schwengelpumpen das Ortsnetz von Vanikum und werden vom Förderverein Vanikum betreut.
Die kleine Ortschaft Vanikum ist ein Ortsteil der Gemeinde Rommerskirchen im
Rhein-Kreis Neuss in Nordrhein-Westfalen und hat ca. 1000 Einwohner. Vanikum
liegt westlich von Rommerskirchen und steht in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft zu
dem Braunkohlekraftwerk in Grevenbroich-Neurath.
As a successor to ponds and wells (germs), the water supply for humans and animals in Vanikum was once ensured by the pump operation.
When the public water network was supplied in 1913, the pumps were no longer needed. However, they proved to be of great help in WW2 when the pipe network was badly damaged.
Today the old handle pumps decorate the local network of Vanikum and are looked after by the Vanikum Friends' Association.
The small village Vanikum is a district of the municipality Rommerskirchen
in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia and has approx. 1000
inhabitants. Vanikum is located west of Rommerskirchen and is in the immediate
vicinity of the lignite power plant in Grevenbroich-Neurath.
