Aqueduct from the 1st century, in the time of the Flavians, and Nerva or Trajan. Its 166 granite stone arches from Guadarrama are made up of ashlars joined without any type of mortar through an ingenious balance of forces. It is about 15 kilometers long, of which one is an arcade and the rest is an underground channel.
Restored in the 15th and 19th centuries, the first section runs from the Riofrío or La Acebeda to the first sand trap. The construction is made of granite and between its ashlars there is no joining material, maintaining its balance thanks to a perfect study of the thrust and weight of the stones. Its highest point, in the Plaza del Azoguejo, reaches 28 meters.
There are two niches that protected pagan gods, replaced by the images of San Sebastián and the Virgin.
It has been declared an International Artistic Historical Monument of Civil Engineering, by the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) in 1999.
