Casa do Concello
"This building, erected in 1888, is the work of architect Queralt Rauret. It has a Classical facade comprising a porticoed ground floor and two upper floors. Beneath the clock is the coat of arms of the Catholic Kings while the front and lateral balustrades show the symbols to be found on the city's coat of arms.
Inside, the Sessions Chamber is decorated with interesting panels with references to both the monarchy and the Republic.
The buildings that have housed the Town Hall have a long and varied history. The first Town Hall was built in the late Gothic style in 1516. In the Late 17th century, it was in a state of ruin and so in 1687 the decision was taken to built a new one using the plans of Castro Canseco. As a result of the extensions added and the refurbishments undertaken, it collapsed in 1873. The present Town Hall was built in the late 19th century.
