The Le Morne Brabant Peninsula is located in the south of the island Mauritius in the wildest area of ??this pearl of the Indian Ocean , dominated by the mountain that bears the same name, symbol of the island. It rises to 553 meters of altitude and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, but not only for its natural beauty and its spectacular shape, but also for its historical value, as it was an exceptional witness to the resistance to slavery. The climb to Le Morne Brabant is an essential activity on your trip to Mauritius. The views from the top of this mythical mountain are sublime.

The peninsula of Le Morne Brabant is a paradisiacal place surrounded by several kilometers of public white sand beaches and the magnificent colors of the coral reef where kitesurfers and submariners who know they are in one of the best spots in the world enjoy . At the foot of the beaches are luxury hotels and, in the distance, surrounded by turquoise blue water, is a golf course .

The steep mountain located southwest of Mauritius Island that juts into the Indian Ocean, was the refuge of maroon slaves in the 18th and early 19th centuries . Le Morne Brabant's own orography protected these people who were victims of the large-scale eastern slave trade. The island of Mauritius was known as the "Republic of the Maroons" by all the slaves who took refuge in Le Morne Brabant. Coming from Madagascar, India and Southeast Asia, slaves settled in Le Morne Brabant in the grottoes and on top of Le Morne Brabant, using it as a fortress.

There are traces of maroon settlements on the Le Morne Brabant mountain.
