The Saint-Fructueux Church in Itxassou is a 17th century Romanesque church. It has three gallery floors and many classified details. We also notice its flesh and its magnificent altarpiece in gilded wood carved in the 18th century, a statue of the virgin, polychrome and gilded from the 17th century.

I invite you to discover the pretty Saint-Fructueux church in Itxassou in the Basque Country, near the Nive.
It is a fairly old religious building, the origins of which date back to the 17th century.
True to the dominant style in Basque churches, it is relatively austere from the outside and extremely warm on the inside.
In terms of dimensions, this church measures approximately 38 meters in length by 15 in width.
It is oriented from the Southwest to the Northeast.
The bell tower takes the form of a square bell tower surmounted by a small pinnacle.
It measures approximately 20 meters in height.
You will find a large cemetery adjacent to the building.
In this one, you notice as a particularity the presence of discoidal and tabular stelae along the nave.

The entrance is at the foot of the bell tower through a large opening leading into an intermediate room.

The interior is typical of Basque churches with a wooden gallery of 3 levels.

These galleries were established in the 18th and 19th centuries in order to increase the capacity of the churches in the face of an increasing population of the faithful. Historically it was men who settled in these galleries, leaving the occupation of the nave to women and children.

Saint Fructueux Church, Itxassou (Pyrénées-Atlantiques 64) AA The interior contains decorative elements listed as historic monuments like a magnificent pulpit.

But the centerpiece is undoubtedly the altarpiece decorated with surprising finesse and precision.

Note the pretty stained glass windows of the choir, which from the outside did not seem able to offer such a beautiful rendering.

L'Eglise Saint-Fructueux à Itxassou est une église du XVIIé siècle de style roman. Elle possède trois étages de galerie et de nombreux détails classés. On remarque également sa chair et son magnifique retable en bois doré sculpté au XVIIIe siècle, une statue de la vierge, polychrome et doré du XVIIe siècle.

Je vous propose découvrir la jolie église Saint-Fructueux à Itxassou dans le Pays Basque, à proximité de la Nive.
Il s'agit d'un édifice religieux assez ancien, dont les origines remontent au XVIIe siècle.
Fidèle au style dominant dans les églises Basques, elle est relativement austère de l'extérieur et extrêmement chaleureuse en son intérieur.
En terme de dimensions, cette église mesure approximativement 38 mètres de longueur pour 15 de largeur.
Elle est orientée du Sud-Ouest vers le Nord-Est.
Le clocher prend la forme d'une tour clocher de forme carrée surmontée, d'un petit clocheton.
Il mesure environ 20 mètres de hauteur.
Vous trouverez un vaste cimetière adjacent à la construction.
Dans celui-ci, vous y remarquez comme particularité la présence de stèles discoïdales et tabulaires sur le long de la nef.

L'entrée se fait au pied du clocher par une vaste ouverture donnant dans une salle intermédiaire.

L'intérieur est typique des église basque avec une galerie en bois de 3 niveaux.

Ces galeries ont été implantées au XVIIIe et XIX afin d'augmenter la capacité des églises face à une population de fidèles en augmentation. Historiquement ce sont les hommes qui s'installent dans ces tribunes, laissant l'occupation de la nef aux aux femmes et enfants.

Eglise Saint Fructueux , Itxassou ( Pyrénées-Atlantiques 64 ) AA L'intérieur recèle des éléments décoratifs inscrit aux monuments historiques comme une magnifique chaire à prier.

Mais la pièce maîtresse est incontestablement le retable décoré avec une finesse et une précision surprenante.

A noter les jolis vitraux du chœur, qui d'extérieur ne semblaient pas pouvoir offrir un si beau rendu.
