Wooden poppyheads and carved bench ends in All Saints' church, Hitcham.

They are probably the work of the Ipswich woodcarver Henry Ringham (visit link) . The best are four evangelistic symbols towards the front. The church guidebook suggests that the benches were removed towards the end of the 19th century and replaced with chairs only to be returned at the behest of the eccentric and splendidly-named Maxwell Maxwell-Gumbleton (visit link) , who was jointly Bishop of Dunwich and Rector of Hitcham in the 1930s and 1940s.
