The fire station on rue du Vieux-Colombier

The Paris fire station at 11 rue du Vieux-Colombier is well known to residents of the 6th arrondissement. Originally much older than most Parisian barracks, this austere-looking building did not always house our popular fire soldiers. Like so many buildings housing public establishments, such, a stone's throw away, the former seminary of Place Saint-Sulpice occupied by the finance administration, there is initially an institution of a religious nature.

La caserne des sapeurs-pompiers de Paris établie au n°11 de la rue du Vieux-Colombier est bien connue des habitants du 6ème arrondissement. D'origine beaucoup plus ancienne que la plupart des casernes parisiennes, ce bâtiment d'apparence austère n'a pas toujours abrité nos populaires soldats du feu. Comme tant d'édifices abritant des établissements publics, tel, à deux pas de là, l'ancien séminaire de la place Saint-Sulpice occupé par l'administration des Finances, on y trouve au départ une institution à caractère religieux.
