NL: Vanaf 1918 werd Lourdes populair en pastoor Jozef Hendrik Goossens bracht voor families in Uikhoven foto's mee van de Lourdesgrot. Hij kwam met het idee om op kleine schaal de grot uit Lourdes te bouwen op het kerkplein. Louis Conings metselde stenen uit de Maastrichtse kalkovens en Leo Hauben sleepte met zijn paarden grote keien uit de Maas om de illusie van het berglandschap van Lourdes te imiteren. Een beeld van een knielende Bernadette met een kaars in haar hand werd geplaatst in de grot met hogerop Maria boven de nis voor het altaar en het Heilig-Hartbeeld met uitgestrekte armen op de top. Het ontwerp van de pastoor plaatste Maria als middelares tussen de mensen (Bernadette) en God (Heilig-Hart). De preekstoel werd de plaats voor een Maria-sermoen.
De restauratie van de Lourdesgrot werd door zes vrijwilligers gedaan van 11 juli 2015 tot 11 juli 2016. De afgebroken hand van Bernadette werd teruggevonden en weer geplaatst.
EN: From 1918 Lourdes became popular and pastor Jozef Hendrik Goossens brought photos of the Lourdes cave for families in Uikhoven. He came up with the idea to build the grotto from Lourdes on a small scale in the church square. Louis Conings laid bricks from the lime kilns in Maastricht and Leo Hauben dragged large boulders from the Maas with his horses to imitate the illusion of the mountain landscape of Lourdes. A statue of a kneeling Bernadette with a candle in her hand was placed in the cave with Mary higher up above the niche in front of the altar and the Sacred Heart statue with arms outstretched on top. The priest's design placed Mary as mediatrix between the people (Bernadette) and God (Sacred Heart). The pulpit became the place for a Maria sermon.
The restoration of the Lourdes Cave was done by six volunteers from July 11, 2015 to July 11, 2016. Bernadette's broken hand was found and placed again.
