The Marion County Quorum Court will be asked to consider seven items of business when it meets in regular session Tuesday evening at 6. The county’s website notes CDC guidelines, such as social distancing, will be used for the meeting, and the wearing of face masks is encouraged due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the items is an emergency ordinance to address leave policies in times of a public health emergency declared by the governor and in keeping with the recently passed federal CARES act.

The justices will also consider transferring $100,000 from the county building fund line item into county general to cover an anticipated shortage until 2019 taxes have been collected. The proposed ordinance notes the monies will be returned to the county building fund as soon as funds become available.

Minutes from the regular monthly meeting of the quorum court in March reflect an attempt to move $225,000 from the county building improvement line item to county general to cover the anticipated shortage until the 2019 taxes are collected.

Several minutes of discussion followed, when it was noted the proposed ordinance had not first been considered by the court’s budget committee.

County Judge John Massey noted he had not seen the proposal until shortly before the March meeting began. He said because he had not seen the proposal, he would veto the measure.

The minutes reflect a note from the county clerk saying the ordinance was distributed with the remainder of the proposed documents in the packets to the court members and media.

Judge Massey then noted he would consider a smaller amount for transfer to county general.

A motion reflecting the change was approved with the directive the proposal would first be considered by the budget committee.

The quorum court meeting will be held in the courtroom of the Marion County Courthouse.

The complete meeting document packet is available at marioncounty.arkansas.gov.
