From 1966, the village of Piatek used to be considered the geometrical center of Poland. In 2018, the geodetic educational campaign 'Honorary Krakow Meridian', in connection with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence and the Year of Polish Geography, made precise calculations based on the official register of state border points. As a result, it turned out that the real, geodetic center of the entire territory of Poland is located 16 km north-west of the village of Piatek, in the village of Nowa Wies near the city of Kutno.

On October 13, 2018, a marble column with forged coordinates of the center of Poland was dug in solemnly. This point fell out in the garden, next to the house on a private property, but the owners gladly agreed to place the monument and often host visitors visiting it, but the place is generally inaccessible directly, although the monument is perfectly visible from the nearby road.

The history of the search for the center of Poland and a description of the calculations made in 2018 was made public at this address (text in PDF, unfortunately, only in Polish): (visit link)
