Le quartier du Bourg a été occupé des le 1er siècle de notre ère. La cathédrale a pris la suite de plusieurs sanctuaires antérieurs remontant jusqu'au Ve siècle; elle a été construite entre le XIIe et le XIVe. Lors des guerres de Religion. l‘édifice a été saccagé et le siège épiscopal s‘est'transporté sur le Rochas. à Saint—Jérôme.
Les vestiges découverts au_cours des fouilles des années 1980 sont présentés dans "la crypte archéologique qui s'étend sous la cathédrale.
La nef a vaisseau unique et chevet plat est un des plus beaux exemples de l'art roman en Haute—Provence : ses murs portent encore quelques fresques du moyen âge. L'aménagement liturgique et les vitraux ont été réalisés à la fin du XXe siècle par David Rabinowitch.
La cathédrale est classée monument historique depuis 1840.

The Bourg district was occupied from the 1st century AD. The cathedral took over from several earlier sanctuaries dating back to the 5th century; it was built between the 12th and the 14th centuries. During the Wars of Religion. the building was ransacked and the episcopal see was transported to the Rochas. in Saint — Jérôme.
The remains discovered during the excavations of the 1980s are presented in "the archaeological crypt which extends under the cathedral.
The nave with a single vessel and a flat chevet is one of the finest examples of Romanesque art in Haute-Provence: its walls still bear some frescoes from the Middle Ages. Liturgical arrangement and stained glass were made at the end of the 20th century by David Rabinowitch.
The cathedral has been classified as a historic monument since 1840.
