La première indication de la présence d'un carillon sur le beffroi date de 1695, où il fut enrichi d'un carillon de 24 cloches.
Sous la Restauration, le beffroi menaçant ruine, le conseil municipal décidait en 1832 la démolition de sa partie supérieure. Le 6 mai 1839 le maire Maurice Colin posait la première pierre de travaux de rénovation à 36 m au-dessus des pavés de la place. La ville décide d'installer dans le beffroi restauré un "ensemble de cloches accordées à différents tons". Elle en passe commande à un facteur de piano arrageois dont les mélomanes ne connaissaient pas encore l'homonyme allemand Richard Wagner. Installé en 1843, il tinte sa ritournelle «Fra diavolo » pour la cérémonie inaugurale. Cependant, il ne reste rien de cet instrument d'origine.
Après les destructions de la Première Guerre Mondiale un nouveau carillon est installé en 1930 : celui-ci est électrifié.
Le carillon, fondu par Louis Bollée à Orléans en 1930, compte 37 cloches fixes auxquelles s’ajoutent 3 cloches de volée portant chacune un élément de la devise républicaine : " Liberté ! Égalité ! Fraternité ! ".
L'instrument est disposé sur un beffroi métallique à sept niveaux extrêmement ramassé, autrefois relié au clavier du carillonneur situé à l'étage inférieur ainsi qu'au cylindre de ritournelle situé deux étages plus bas.
Il y a un concert de carillon, le premier samedi de chaque mois.

The first indication of the presence of a carillon on the belfry dates from 1695, where it was enriched with a carillon of 24 bells.
Under the Restoration, the belfry threatening ruin, the city council decided in 1832 the demolition of its upper part. On May 6, 1839, Mayor Maurice Colin laid the foundation stone for renovation work 36 m above the cobblestones of the square. The city decides to install in the restored belfry a "set of bells tuned in different tones". She ordered it from a postman from Arras, whose music lovers did not yet know the German namesake Richard Wagner. Installed in 1843, it tinkles its refrain "Fra diavolo" for the inaugural ceremony. However, nothing remains of this original instrument.
After the destruction of the First World War a new carillon was installed in 1930: it was electrified.
The carillon, melted by Louis Bollée in Orléans in 1930, has 37 fixed bells to which are added 3 bells on the fly, each carrying an element of the republican motto: "Liberty! Equality! Fraternity!".
The instrument is placed on an extremely gathered seven-level metal belfry, formerly connected to the carillonneur keyboard located on the lower floor and to the refrain cylinder located two floors below.
There is a carillon concert on the first Saturday of each month.
