Der Hartborn sollte als Brunnen den Wanderen und Erholungssuchenden eine Möglichkeit zur Rast und Erfrischung bieten. Das kühle Wasser des Hartborns diente aber auch den Arbeitern der nahe gelegenen Basalt-Steinbrüche als Möglichkeit ihren Durst zu stillen.

Anfahrt: A61 Abfahrt Mendig, nach Süden B 262. Nach ca. 4 km rechts nach Kottenheim abbiegen, weiter der Beschilderung nach Ettringen fahren. Vor Ettringen befindet sich auf der rechten Seite ein Sportplatz. Dort oder an der „Hochsimmerhalle“ parken und zu Fuß ca. 500 m bergabwärts dem Bachbett folgen. Die Quelle liegt auf der linken Seite.
Erbaut 1932. Erneuert 1966/67 vom Katholischen Junggesellenverein Ettringen.
Bei dem Wasser handelt es sich um einen eisenhaltigen Calcium-MagnesiumHydrogencarbonat-Säuerling.
