Great Hall Entrance Pavilion Shield No.1 - The University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, U.K. - Coats of Arms on Waymarking.com

Part of the Arms of the historic county of Worcestershire on the entrance pavilion to the Great Hall of the University of Birmingham.

This shield is carved in the stone spandrels of the great round-arch mullioned window which is set in the entrance pavilion to the Great Hall. The shield displays a horizontal stripe across the middle of the shield between three pears.

This shield is one of six carved in the stone spandrels of the window, representing the arms of the Midland counties, of England, and is the second of the Arms shown in the Official blazon shown below:
'Arms: Quarterley sable and gules, a castle triple-towered argent.
Arms: Argent, a fesse between three pears sable.'
