[DE] "Die Waldkapelle
Die Stadt Mayen erlitt während des Krieges 1939 - 1945 mehrere Bombenangriffe und wurde am 2. Januar 1945 fast vollständig zerstört.
Nach Ende des Krieges beschlossen die Gläubigen der Pfarrei "Herz-Jesu" zu Ehren der Gottesmutter Maria als Dank für die Errettung aus großer Not diese Kapelle zu bauen.
Das Grundstück im Distrikt "Im Brasil" wurde der Pfarrei "Herz-Jesu" von der Stadt Mayen geschenkt.
Am 1. Juni 1945 - während der französischen Besatzung - erfolgte der erste Spatenstich zum Bau dieser Kapelle, die unter vielen Mühen, Schwierigkeiten und Widerständen durch den persönlichen Einsatz zahlreicher Mayener Bürgerinnen und Bürger errichtet wurde.
Die Kapelle soll auch in Zukunft an die vielen Opfer erinnern, die dieser furchtbare Krieg von der Bevölkerung gefordert hat.
Der Lions Club Mayen hat zur Erhaltung dieser Gedenkstätte die Patenschaft übernommen."

The city of Mayen suffered several bomb attacks during the war 1939 - 1945 and was almost completely destroyed on January 2, 1945.
After the end of the war, the faithful of the parish "Herz-Jesu" decided to build this chapel in honour of the Blessed Mother Mary as thanksgiving for the salvation from great hardship.
The land in the district "Im Brasil" was donated to the parish "Herz-Jesu" by the city of Mayen.
On June 1, 1945 - during the French occupation - the first sod was turned for the construction of this chapel, which was built under many efforts, difficulties and resistance through the personal commitment of numerous Mayen citizens.
The chapel will continue to commemorate the many victims that this terrible war has claimed from the population.
The Lions Club Mayen has taken over the sponsorship for the preservation of this memorial."
