During the 30s, 40s and 50s this was a very popular over night stop on any trips to northern Missouri. This stretch of road was US-61, the major north-south artery in eastern Missouri.
Many motels back then, were a set of cabins. You did not share the building, but your family stayed in a cabin all your own, small kitchen, and cloth hanging dividers to create bedrooms if needed.
These, connected to the Skelly gas station (also a common theme), I am told, closed for good in the early 60s.
