CZ: 6540 Stepling je planetka nacházející se v hlavním pásu asteroidu. Objevil ji A. Mrkos (1982). Pojmenována na památku Josepha Steplinga, zakladatele a prvního reditele astronomické observatore na jezuitské koleji v Praze v Klementinu (1751). Je též znám zavedením Newtonovy fyziky v Praze. Jméno navrhli J. Tichá a M. Šolc.

Joseph Stepling (29. cerven 1716 Rezno – 11. cervenec 1778 Praha) byl cesko-nemecký jezuitský knez, fyzik, astronom, matematik a meteorolog.

EN: 6540 Stepling is asteroid located in the main asteroid belt. It was discovered by A. Mrkos (1982). Named in memory of Joseph Stepling, founder and first director of the astronomical observatory at the Jesuit College in Prague, Klementinum (1751). He is also known for introducing Newton's physics in Prague. The name was suggested by J. Tichá and M. Šolc.

Joseph Stepling (June 29, 1716 Regensburg - July 11, 1778 Prague) was a Czech-German Jesuit priest, physicist, astronomer, mathematician and meteorologist.
