"The chamber of agriculture of Pointe-à-Pitre was destroyed by the fire of July 18, 1871. In order to meet the requirements established by the municipality in terms of reconstruction, the president of the Chamber of Agriculture proposed a construction project made of iron and bricks made by engineer Suffit.
The project was adopted in 1871. In January 1872, the House bought land sold by the heirs L'Herminier. The building was also to house a library and the botanical and zoological collections of Dr. Ferdinand L'Herminier.
The building built in 1873 included a raised ground floor as a room for deliberation. It was preceded by a gallery punctuated with cast iron columns. The roof was covered with tiles and the stop surmounted by a ridge of zinc ridge. A zinc marquee would also run along the awning protecting the gallery.
In the 1930s, this building was elevated. To reach the first floor, a half-open staircase was built against the rear facade of the building and enclosed in a staircase tower on the courtyard.
The gallery of the floor is formed of cast iron columns, different from those of the ground floor. The portal is decorated with wrought iron foliage. The outbuildings consist of two separate buildings.
Listed as a historic monument, the building housed until 1960 a museum dedicated to local flora and fauna. "

" La chambre d'agriculture de Pointe-à-Pitre fut détruite par l'incendie du 18 juillet 1871. Afin de répondre aux prescriptions établies par la municipalité en terme de reconstruction, le président de la Chambre d'agriculture proposa un projet de construction en fer et en briques élaboré par l'ingénieur Suffit.
Le projet fut adopté en 1871. En janvier 1872, la Chambre acheta un terrain vendu par les héritiers L'Herminier. Le bâtiment devait également abriter une bibliothèque et les collections botaniques et zoologiques du docteur Ferdinand L'Herminier.
Le bâtiment construit en 1873 comprenait un rez-de-chaussée surélevé servant de salle de délibération. Il était précédé d'une galerie rythmée de colonnettes en fonte. Le toit était couvert en tuiles et l'arrête surmontée d'une galerie de faîtage en zinc. Une marquise en zinc courrait également le long de l'auvent protégeant la galerie.
Dans les années 1930, ce bâtiment fut surélevé. Pour accéder à l'étage, un escalier demi hors-oeuvre fut édifié contre la façade postérieure du bâtiment et enserré dans une tour d'escalier gagnée sur la cour.
La galerie de l'étage est formée de colonnettes en fonte, différentes de celles du rez-de-chaussée. Le portail est décoré de rinceaux en fer forgé. Les dépendances sont constituées de deux bâtiments distincts.
Inscrit aux monuments historiques, l'édifice abrita jusqu'en 1960 un musée consacré à la faune et la flore locales. "
