On the Fourth of July 2018, the U.S. Postal Service released a stamp issue celebrating the popular song “America the Beautiful.” It consisted of twenty different designs on a single pane with each scene representing one of five phrases from the well-known verse. This particular stamp was one of four representing “the fruited plain.” The fruit in this case is grapes.

Though not as famous as Napa Valley or Sonoma Valley, California’s Edna Valley in San Luis Obispo County, has become a favorite wine tasting destination in recent years. Constant sea breezes, a lower latitude and rich volcanic soil all make for ideal growing conditions. The local specialties are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
