Browns Point has had a lighthouse since 1903 when the first one replaced a post with lamp installed in 1873. By the early 1930s there was a need to replace the existing lighthouse and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers designed this square shape. It was a strong break from the traditional round design.
By the 1960s the light was automated and there was no longer a need to staff this station.
Today the Browns Point Lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places.
