Bessie is a small agricultural community named for the "Bess Line" of the Blackwell, Enid and Southwestern Railroad which first came through town in 1902. Built on land original part of the Cheyenne-Arapaho Nation, the Stout, Oklahoma post office was moved here and renamed in 1903.
