Marker dedicated to the officers and men of the USS Triton (SS 201) which was lost at sea with all hands on 15 March 1943.

The marker is located at the National Submarine Memorial in Groton.

the USS Triton was launched in 1940, after having her keel lad down at the Portsmouth shipbuilding yards. After an initial shakedown in the Caribbean, she was sent to Pearl Harbor, HI arriving in August, 1941.

Triton conducted 5 successful patrols after War in the Pacific broke out. However, on her sixth patrol she encountered enemy shipping on 15 March 1943. Triton radioed that they had been depth-charged. That was the last transmission received. After Triton failed to make her assigned slip she was declared overdue, and eventually presumed sunk. Japanese vessel in her last known position reported a slick and debris with American markings.

USS Triton was lost with all hands, numbering 74. Their names are listed on a separate marker at the same location.
