History

  1222   Church consecrated.
1581   Bell cast. Stahlschmidt described it in 1887 as somewhat eccentric in shape and proabably the work of a local genius, not a bell founder by trade. According to the Churchwarden in 2016, it sounded dreadful! [1]
  1882   Vestry added.
2012 November Bell stolen from the turret.
2014   A bell became available from the Keltek Trust from St Aidan, Hellifield, N Yorks. This was transferred to one of the local halls and stored there pending hanging. [2]
2016   The bells in storage was taken to the Whitechapel Bell Foundry where it was sandblasted, tuned and fitted in the empty cupola with stationary chiming fittings including a trigger action clapper.
[1] Bell somewhat eccentric in shape, and probably the work of a local genius, not a bellfounder by trade. What date he meant by the hieroglyph he has put on the bell it is difficult to say - I incline to 1581; 3 the figures are clearly reversed. ("Church Bells of Kent" J C L Stahlschmidt, 1887)
[2] Bell reference 12042. (Keltek Reference)"
