"Brown" in script on the plinth is easily a nod to Mr. Brown's heritage, as his father was from Germany. Note "B of LF" on the cap, which is a reference to "Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen"; interestingly, Mr. Brown's father's Findagrave page indicates that he lost two children to railroad accidents, so this may have been one of them.

The monument has ivy detail throughout, and the front panel reads:

Charles
E.
Brown,

Died
November 16, 1899,

Age
24 Years and 23 Days.

We only know that thou has gone,
And that the same relentless tide
Which bore thee from us, still glides on,
And we who mourn thee with it glide.

-----

There is no other text to be found, and the remaining panels are blank. However, there is a complementing footstone with "C.E.B." on it.
