The St. Luke's Episcopal Church has a 'two-for' for those looking for nourishment. Not only does this church sponsor a Little Free Library for those seeking to fill a hungry mind, they also offer a twin unit used as a food pantry for those who need more tangible food for the body. These two miniature dispensaries of wisdom and succor are located at the entrance to the church's parking lot along St. Lukes Lane in Alamo Heights (a city/suburb within San Antonio, TX).
When facing the two community swap units, the Little Free Library is the unit on the left of the twin boxes along the curbside. It is stained a dark brown which blends in with the stippled lighting coming through the overhanging oak tree branches spreading above this small library box. At the time of posting this waymark entry, this book exchange unit was well supplied with a variety of books of all reading levels. The custom of these community book exchanges is that anyone is welcome to take a book and is encouraged to either add a book or return a book. The expression used is: Take a book, Leave a book.
The Little Food Pantry unit is on the observer's right when facing the twin boxes. It had a some cans of several different selected vegetables, some bags of dried lentils and beans, and assorted items like tea. The sign on the door of the Little Free Pantry states:
Need some food: Take some
Have a little extra food: Leave some
On the side of the food pantry unit there is attached a small, secured receptacle with a slot in the top for people who have prayer requests to leave a note to the church of their need for prayers.
