Nong Khai is the capital of Nong Khai Province in northeast Thailand.

Nong Khai lies on the Mekong River, near the site of the first Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge. It is the road and railway gateway to the Lao capital, Vientiane, 25 kilometers upriver. The city itself is pleasant but without outstanding attractions. Tourists tend to 'pass through' the city. The city boasts the usual assortment of night markets, shops, hotels, temples, bus station, train station, airport, and so forth. Of note is the Mekong. There is a night market on the River, this is always a pleasant event. Approximately 50,000 population.

The building itself looks functional in design, but not overly exciting. The building is multi-story, pinkish in colour, and rather modern looking. It is one of the few modern in appearance buildings in the city. I suspect constructed within the last two decades. There no memorials or other public images on the grounds. Such things are to be found in the provincial admin building (as is the norm in Thailand). When I visited the building was closed to the public.

Nong Khai is 626 km north of Bangkok by road.
