This historic Jewish cemetery was established in 1850. The cemetery "reflects physically and historically changing religious ideas as well as burial practices. The transition can be seen in the contrast between the oldest part of the cemetery with its tight, straight rows of graves and the more modern Rural cemetery that was designed around it. This design took form under the supervision of Julius Pitzman, prominent local landscape designer, in 1907. In addition to its significant landscape design, the cemetery also contains 41 buildings and structures representing significant examples of Art Deco, Neo-Classical, Queen Anne and exotic architectural styles." ~ Missouri DNR news release
