Bakery - Appin, NSW, Australia - Independent Bakeries on Waymarking.com

The 'Independent Bakery' is set in a strip of shops at the village of Appin, about 35km NW of Wollongong, or 16km south of Campbelltown. There are two 'café-style' aluminium tables and chairs set up outside the Bakery under the broad awning, if you want to take your time eating one of their delights. They advertise that they are the, "The Home of the Original Appin Pie"; though I'm not sure if that is a sweet or savoury.

I was in too much of a hurry to get to Wollongong to dally, so ate my flaky-pastry Apple Turnover on the way to a Flashmob Event, and just made it. There is generally just enough parking in front of the shops, as there is a small pull-in area.

* Appin has a somewhat strange history, as European settlement was prohibited for some years after the first and second Fleets. (Escaped cattle from the settlement had been found in the Wollondilly region, and in order to feed the young colony, they were protected - as lieges would have, in Feudal England; to protect against poachers).

In modern times, coal has been mined at the Appin Colliery from 1962, probably when this village shopping 'centre' opened for the workers. [Info from Wikipedia - (visit link) ]
