Arizona Eastern Railway Bridge - Globe, AZ - Railroad Bridges on Waymarking.com

The mining town of Globe dates to the late 1800's. Supplies for the town and the local copper mines were brought in from New Mexico as the track gradient is much easier and shorter than if supplies came from Phoenix. With the establishment of mines in Miami, to the west, the rail line was extended through Globe. This bridge carries the tracks over Broad street, the major commercial thoroughfare in Globe. The original part of the bridge was built in 1910 as attested by plates on the bridge. It was remodeled in 1923. Now carrying a single track, remaining cement pylons suggest it originally had two tracks. The design is of six deck plate girder spans. The southern approach is timber. Originally operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad, the line was sold to the local mining company and is referred to as the Arizona Eastern Railway.
