Die hübsche Stoffelbergkapelle geht auf einen Vorgängerbau zurück, der am gleichen Platz bereits vor mehr als 500 Jahren stand.

Vom Wanderparkplatz überqueren man den Asphaltweg und gelangen in westlicher Richtung über einen Naturweg zur Stoffelbergkapelle; Ruhebänke und ein Besuch der Kapelle laden zum Verweilen ein. Etwa fünf Meter südwestlich der Kapelle steht fast unscheinbar ein Geleitstein. Er bezeichnet den Wechsel des Geleitrechts (sichere Begleitung von Reisenden) zwischen dem westlich gelegen Württemberger und dem ostwärts anschließenden Habsburger Geleitgebiet.

Bereits im Mittelalter führte eine Landstraße von Ehingen nach Münsingen über den Stoffelberg.
Vermutlich hat man nun auf der Höhe des Albübergangs eine Kapelle errichtet, die dem heiligen Christophorus geweiht wurde, der ja bekanntlich der Patron der Fuhrleute und der Reisenden ist.
Es kann auch nicht von der Hand gewiesen werden, dass die Kapelle dem Stoffelberg (=Christophorusberg) den Namen gegeben hat. Dann jedoch bereits vor 1390, denn zu dieser Zeit wird der Stoffelberg erstmals genannt. Sicher ist, dass die Kapelle zur Burg Altsteußlingen gehörte, da der Platz auf dem sie steht, Weide der Burg war.
Eine über siebzigjährige Tradition ist es, am Pfingstmontag bei der Kapelle zusammenzukommen, um Gottesdienst zu feiern.

The pretty Stoffelberg chapel dates back to a predecessor building, which stood on the same site more than 500 years ago.

From the trail parking lot, cross the asphalt road and head west along a nature trail to the Stoffelberg chapel; Loungers and a visit to the chapel invite you to linger. About five meters southwest of the chapel is almost inconspicuously a Geleitstein. It refers to the change of the right of escort (safe escort of travelers) between the west lying Württemberger and the eastward subsequent Habsburg escort area.

Already in the Middle Ages led a country road from Ehingen to Münsingen on the Stoffelberg.
Presumably, a chapel has now been built on the height of the Alb crossing, which was consecrated to St. Christopher, who is known to be the patron saint of carters and travelers.
It can not be dismissed out of hand that the chapel gave the Stoffelberg (= Christophorusberg) the name. But then already before 1390, because at this time the Stoffelberg is first mentioned. It is certain that the chapel belonged to the castle Altsteußlingen, since the place on which it stands was pasture of the castle.
It is a tradition of over seventy years to gather at the chapel on Whit Monday to celebrate worship.
