"Strada Romana Basolata

"Roman Road

The remains of two Roman roads were discovered in 1967, during the works at the Chamber of Commerce House. These are paving stones made of stone slabs (bàsoli) with a polished upper face and a lower wedge-shaped one, for greater penetration into the ground.

The road is one of the minor cardinals of the Roman city, parallel to the cardo maximus, (today Corso Campi, via Verdi and via Monteverdi) and crosses one of the decumani (today via Jacini, Cavallotti and Cavour). The find, in addition to its archaeological value, was fundamental for understanding the urban layout of the Roman city, founded in 218 BC."
