Originally known as Glaze, the town of Jones (or Jones City as it is sometimes called) was first platted in 1898 and named for Charles "Gristmill" Jones, three-time mayor of Oklahoma City. The town was incorporated in 1909.

Originally settled as an agricultural town, today, with a population of about 2500, it is considered a bedroom community to Oklahoma City, which surrounds it on three sides. This change occurred after World War II when Tinker Air Force Base was established to the south, and the railroad no longer stopped in Jones.

Jones has a mayor-council form of government. Their offices are located in the downtown area at 106-110 E. Main where the administrative offices, police department and municipal courts are located. The council meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00PM. City offices are open Monday to Friday from 8:00 - 4:30.

The Jones city complex is a one-story tan brick building located at 106-110 E. Main in the downtown area. There are three occupancies in the building. The east houses the City administrative offices. There is a single glass door and large display windows. The center space houses the Police Department, and the west side, which has a slightly higher roof line contains the Municipal Court. This area has double glass doors and no windows. There are two flagpoles out front displaying the flags of the U.S. and Oklahoma. Across the entire facade is a green cloth awning with the words "Town of Jones City".
