The Dehmel Road Bridge originally crossed the Cass River less than a mile west of Frankenmuth near St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. It was built in 1907 to replace a simple, wooden bridge built in 1883. The bridge was fabricated by the Joliet Bridge and Iron Company of Joliet, Illinois. Because of the color, the bridge was often called the "Black Bridge." It originally had a 30 foot "pony" pratt truss with a large 151 foot pratt-thru truss. It was replaced in 1982 with a modern concrete bridge. The old iron bridge now crosses the Dead Creek here on Grandpa Tiny's Farm, about two miles east of its original site. The "Black Bridge" was moved and restored my Wm. "Tiny" Zehnder Jr.
Date Built: 01/01/1907

151 feet
