EN: The Mother of God chapel is located in the center of Geimen and, with the wooden houses in the neighborhood, offers the rare image of a traditional Valais mountain village. The chapel has arched windows and a very thin ridge turret on the slate roof.

The chapel was formerly visited by the inhabitants of the surrounding hamlets of Geimen, Mehlbaum, Moos, Bitschji and Hegdorn, until it was replaced in 1969 by a larger, modern chapel on the edge of the village. I could not find its current status, the chapel is no longer listed by the parish; in any case, there are no longer regular church services here.

I could not find anything about the history of the house either. The village was first mentioned in 1327 and almost completely destroyed by French troops in 1799, most of the buildings had to be rebuilt, but I do not know if the chapel was one of them.

DE: Die Muttergottes-Kapelle befindet sich im Zentrum von Geimen und bietet mit den Holzhäusern in der Nachbarschaft das selten gewordene Bild eines traditionellen Walliser Bergdorfs. Die Kapelle hat Bogenfenster und einen sehr dünnen Dachreiter auf dem Schieferdach.

Die Kapelle wurde früher von den Bewohnern der umliegenden Weiler Geimen, Mehlbaum, Moos, Bitschji und Hegdorn besucht, bis sie 1969 durch eine grössere, moderne Kapelle am Dorfrand ersetzt wurde. Den aktuellen Status konnte ich nicht in Erfahrung bringen, die Kapelle wird von der Kirchgemeinde nicht mehr aufgelistet; es finden jedenfalls keine regelmässigen Gottesdienste mehr statt.

Auch über die Geschichte des Hauses konnte ich nichts finden. Das Dorf wurde 1327 erstmals erwähnt und 1799 von Französischen Truppen fast vollständig zerstört, die meisten Gebäude mussten neu aufgebaut werden, aber ob die Kapelle auch dazu gehörte, weiss ich nicht.
