David Loren Dickinson was a farmer from South Amherst, MA. He enlisted in the Union Army from Roxbury, MA on Feb. 20, 1862 and reenlisted on February 22, 1864. As a member of Co. L, 1 Regiment Massachusetts Heavy Artillery, he was wounded on May 19, 1864 during the Battle of the Wilderness and died the next day, May 20, 1864. His grave is marked by a 6' high polished black granite, family, monument which is inscribed:

MAY 20, 1864
AE 18 YRS.
