The parish church of Bignoux is placed under the patronage of Hilaire, first insured bishop of the diocese (see 350-367 or 368), one of the greatest Christian authors of the West. It was discovered from the abbey of Saint-Hilaire-de-la-Celle in Poitiers - an establishment of the regular canons of St. Augustine - from the Middle Ages until the Revolution. ? The parish was then successively attached to that of Montamisé then Sèvres. On the insistence of the inhabitants, it was restored in 1871. This decade saw the purchase of land to build a presbytery (the current mayor), the construction of a school entrusted to the congregation of Sainte-Philomène de Salvert ( 1872-1874) and the beginning of the reconstruction of the church, completed in the 1890s. A parish priest, Antoine Verger, was appointed in 1874. In the 19th century, we dream of restoring the Christian society that has known the Middle Age. So we build churches in a "Romanesque" style that can evoke the flowering Romanesque churches of the region. Thus, the plan of the new church of Bignoux adopts the widespread form of the Latin cross, with a nave of three bays, a transept, a choir with flat bedside. The barrel vault is punctuated by double arches. The berries are also Romanesque.

source ParvisCatholic :
