In 1779, Paul Hoss had the Way of the Cross built the Way of the Cross with 14 red sandstone stations. This is evidenced by the X. Station (Jesus is robbed of his clothes), which bears the following inscription: "These stations with the way of the cross were made by Paulus Hoss, chiefs in Waxweiler Anno 1779". Archbishop Clemens Wenzeslaus granted on November 11, 1779 by his suffragan bishop at the request of the then pastor Johann Jakob Niesen for each station of the Stations of the Cross 40 days indulgence. The Way of the Cross was consecrated on 2 April 1780 by P. Biermann from the Franciscan Convent in Ulflingen (Luxembourg) on behalf of his guardian P. Hieronymus Rickel. The Way of the Cross started at the lower end of Pintesfelder Straße on the left side of the street with the I. Station. Behind the closed row of houses (below the house Gansen-Pütz) was the II. Station, the III. in the wall at the former house Reiter, today Sartor. The other stations were placed in the middle of the trees of life: IV. Station (opposite the former house Beirig), V. Station (in front of the entrance to the street 'Auf Staudigt'), VI. Station (opposite the house Johnen), VII. Station (between the previous and the next, the place today still draws part of the trunk of a cut tree of life), VIII. Station (before the entrance to the court Pütz), IX. Station (behind the entrance to the farm Pütz), X. Station (opposite the old water house). Over many years, severe weathering occurred. In 1975, the stations were dismantled from the wayside and moved to the free space at a holy house. The reliefs of these stations are 65 x 60 cm in size and fastened on a shaft about 90 cm high plus base stone. In the literature, the size of the reliefs is given as 85 x 80 cm. In fact, this size only corresponds to the XIV station on the right side of the wall of the sanctuary. The left-sided XI. Station measures 45 x 45 cm. In former times there were Good Friday processions. For a while, people went on a pilgrimage on a Sunday afternoon in Lent. Today, the faithful of the parish of Waxweiler and their pastor go on a Friday afternoon in Lent on the Way of the Cross praying in procession to the holy house.
In the photo gallery you can see pictures of the original stations in sandstone.
