He was born on December 2, 1842 in Cambridge, MA and died on July 20, 1906 in Wakefield, MA. He attained the rank of Brigadier General in the U.S. Army. His Medal of Honor information and citation is: RICE, EDMUND

Citation: Conspicuous bravery on the third day of the battle on the countercharge against Pickett's division where he fell severely wounded within the enemy's lines.
