This panel, part of the Birmingham freedom walk, is located at the front of the former parsonage of the 16th Street Baptist Church. The church was an epicenter of the civil rights peaceful resistance movement, and as result was bombed by 4 white supremacist members of the Ku Klux Klan on 15 September 1963. Four children died in that bombing. The youngest was just 11 years old, and the oldest was 14.
In the center of this relief panel, you can see the depiction of the 4 girls the moment of their deaths, juxtaposed with clan hoods, civil rights heroes and the scene of the bombing of the church.
Text on the monument reads as follows;
