FR Situé à l’entrée du Parc des Expositions et des Congrès de Marseille, le jardin du Parc Chanot est un vrai havre de paix et de verdure en plein centre-ville. Avec ses manèges et ses aires de jeux pour enfants, il est idéal pour une petite sortie en famille.

Le Parc Chanot est principalement connu pour accueillir tout au long de l’année de grands événements et salons comme la Foire de Marseille, le Salon du Cake design ou encore la Japan Expo Sud. Outre ces manifestations qui se déroulent à l’intérieur de ses différents bâtiments, le parc abrite également un jardin de plus d’un hectare qui fait le grand bonheur des enfants.

L’espace vert s’organise autour d’une « petite » pyramide vitrée de quatre mètres. Et si certains l’ignoraient, cette pyramide est le puits de lumière de la station de métro « Rond-Point du Prado » situé juste en dessous du jardin ! Prêtez-y attention la prochaine fois que vous sortirez des escalators.

Le jardin compte deux aires de jeux pour enfants, d’un manège, d’un circuit de voitures électrique, d’un restaurant et même d’un petit théâtre de marionnettes. Outre ces « attractions », le parc dispose aussi depuis 1995 d’une piste d’éducation routière pour nos minots. Le tout bordé par de grands pins parasols et de nombreux arbustes qui apportent un véritable dépaysement au lieu, pourtant si proche d’axes très fréquentés par les voitures.

Les indiscrets et les bons plans En lieu et place de l’actuel Parc des Expositions et des Congrès de Marseille se trouvait auparavant le champ de manœuvre du Rouet utilisé par l’armée jusqu’au début du 20ème siècle. Ce terrain a été choisi pour accueillir la première exposition coloniale de France en 1906 et a gardé cette vocation par la suite.

Les magnifiques et imposantes grilles de l’entrée du Parc Chanot ont été installées pour la deuxième exposition coloniale que Marseille a organisée en 1922 après le succès de la première. C’est également pour cette occasion que le Palais des Arts a été construit.

Le parc est baptisé du nom de Jean-Baptiste-Amable Chanot qui a été élu trois fois à la mairie de Marseille entre 1902 et 1914. C’est lors de son second mandat et notamment grâce à son soutien que la première exposition coloniale de Marseille a vu le jour.

EN Located at the entrance to the Parc des Expositions et des Congrès de Marseille, the Parc Chanot garden is a true haven of peace and greenery in the heart of the city. With its rides and children's playgrounds, it is ideal for a small family outing.

The Chanot Park is mainly known for hosting major events and exhibitions all year round, such as the Marseille Fair, the Cake Design Fair and Japan Expo Sud. In addition to these events which take place inside its various buildings, the park also houses a garden of more than one hectare which is a great delight for children.

The green space is organized around a "small" four-metre glass pyramid. And if some people didn't know it, this pyramid is the skylight of the "Rond-Point du Prado" metro station located just below the garden! Pay attention to this next time you exit the escalators.

The garden has two children's playgrounds, a riding arena, an electric car circuit, a restaurant and even a small puppet theatre. In addition to these "attractions", the park has also had a road safety education trail for our childrens since 1995. All this is bordered by large umbrella pines and numerous shrubs that bring a real change of scenery to the place, even though it is so close to the roads that are very busy with cars.

Good plans At the place of the current Parc des Expositions et des Congrès de Marseille, there was previously the Rouet manoeuvre field used by the army until the beginning of the 20th century. This site was chosen to host France's first colonial exhibition in 1906 and has kept this vocation ever since.

The magnificent and imposing gates at the entrance to Parc Chanot were installed for the second colonial exhibition that Marseille organized in 1922 after the success of the first. It is also for this occasion that the Palais des Arts was built.

The park is named after Jean-Baptiste-Amable Chanot, who was elected three times to the Marseille town hall between 1902 and 1914. It was during his second term of office and thanks to his support in particular that the first colonial exhibition in Marseille was held.
