[FR] Il y a 40 ans, la première cigogne faisait son nid à Saint-Denis-du-Payré. Depuis, elles s’y sont installées. On compte 29 nids dans la commune.
C’est en 1977 que le premier couple de cigogne a été observé dans la commune. Les villageois étaient assez étonnés de cette installation. Ils se demandaient si c’était un hasard, l’affaire d’un couple égaré?? Mais non, finalement, les cigognes sont revenues, le coin leur a plu.

Des nids au centre du bourg.

Lorsque la femelle a succombé, à l’époque, les villageois se sont mobilisés pour en faire venir une autre de Strasbourg. La nature faisant bien les choses, d’autres mâles venus d’Afrique sont arrivés dans le village afin de s’unir à la belle…
Depuis, la Ligue pour la protection des oiseaux (LPO) a accroché des dizaines de nids à des poteaux afin d’attirer d’autres couples.
Aujourd’hui, la population de cigognes blanches est devenue importante dans la commune. On compte 29 nids. En moyenne, une soixantaine de jeunes cigognes naissent, puis grandissent avant de s’envoler vers l’Afrique, chaque année.

Since then, the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) has hung dozens of nests at poles in order to attract other couples.
Today, the population of white storks has become important in the municipality. There are 29 nests. On average, about 60 young storks are born, then grow before flying to Africa each year.
