Februar 1803."
[EN] "The written tradition of the diocese begins in 845 with the immunity privilege of Louis the German. The bishop's rule was extended in 1027 by Emperor Conrad II with the conferral of secular power in the county of Norital (Wipp- and Eisacktal) (Kögl, Joseph: La sovranità dei vescovi di Trento e Bressanone. Trento 1964. p. 12.). In 1179 Emperor Frederick I awarded the Bishops of Brixen the Coin Regal and in 1189 the Mountain Regal.
The bishop, equal in rank as imperial prince to the others (cf. Roschmann von Hörburg, Cassian Anton: Geschichte von Tirol. 2. Teil. Vienna 1803, p. 217) and "dux et iusticiarius in terra sua", exercised the highest ruling functions; it was in its power to convene the land right (placita) and to exercise the right of escort (ius conductus). According to his position as vassal of the emperor, on the other hand, he had the duty to participate in the war campaigns of the emperor (Reichsheerfahrt) and in the assembly of the Reichsstände (Reichshoftag) (see Ficker, Julius: Vom Reichsfürstenstande. Research on the history of the Imperial Constitution initially in the XIIth and XIIIth centuries. Volume II, Part 2 edited by Paul Puntschart. Innsbruck 1911.).
His secular power died out with the secularization of February 15, 1803."
