Texas Historic Site Atlas

The second floor of the Masonic Building housed Lodge #216 from the building's construction in 1907 until 1974 when a new lodge building was erected. In 1929, after a devastating fire, the building was sold and the second floor leased back by the Lodge. The first floor was always leased for commercial uses. In 1975 the building was purchased by Jim Jones and used as an office supply until recently. The building retains a significant part of its integrity and its alterations may be due more to the 1929 fire than cumulative changes over the years. It is significant in representing the social order of a small community and in its reflection of the architectural pattern set by the 1885 courthouse.
