The Town Hall building was openned on 10th May 1900 which is a year later than that displayed on the ornamental gates in the door case and the Municipal Building plaque displayed on the front of the building.

Mr Ardron F.R.I.B.A was the architect who designed this building and the main building contractor was Messrs. Gradwell and Co. of Barrow in Furness.
