This grey granite El Camino Real monument was placed in 1976 by the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century to mark the route of the El Camino Real/King's Highway in Nacogdoches.
The marker is located along TX SH 7& 21/W Main Street/El Camino Real on the north side of the the Nacogdoches County Courthouse.
The marker reads as follows:
"[Colonial Dames of the XVII Century medallion] EL CAMINO REAL – KING’S HIGHWAY 1691
Trail used by Indians, French traders, Spanish settlers, and more than 50,000 Anglo-Americans who settled in Texas prior to statehood.
Texas Society, National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century Mrs. David Atwood, President Mrs. Joe E Erickson, Chairman A.D. 1976"
