He was a merchant, explorer, naturalist, and author of Commerce of the Prairies about the American Southwest and Northern Mexico regions. He reportedly died of a fall from his mount due to starvation near Clear Lake, California, on 25 February 1850.

he Boone's Lick Trail from St. Charles to Franklin opened the way for the surveying of a trail from Franklin to Santa Fe, NM. This honors all who came this way and pushed west. This trail was blazed by the sons of Daniel Boone.

Zeke was raised in Kentucky. The year of his birth is some where between 1775/1780. Where is unknown. If he was born in 1780, that made him 15 years old when his son Samuel Ezekiel was born in 1795.
